Client: Versatile
Project Scope: Fabrication and installation of two bespoke 3600mm circular skylights, suspended above dual story glass lifts within a luxury penthouse development. The skylights were designed to deliver maximum daylight, thermal efficiency and panoramic architectural impact.
Duration: Completed within the construction schedule using tower crane access and specialist glazing techniques.
Delivery Model
Collaborative delivery between Magic Glass, PBD Architects, Rickard Engineering and Cooling Brothers with installation managed under challenging rooftop access conditions.
The Challenge
The project required the creation of oversized curved skylights for a high rise residential penthouse, balancing structural safety, solar control and seamless integration with the building’s architectural form. Installing laminated soft coat Low EIGUs in an overhead curved application presented significant technical and safety challenges, rarely attempted in Australian glazing projects.
The Solution
Magic Glass delivered the project using dual semi circular IGUs per skylight, each 17.52mm laminated with Ultra Cool E technology offering superior light transmission and solar control. A tower crane lifted the massive glass units into place supported by induction bent steel frames and precision glazing bars. Safety was ensured through heat-soaked glass, fall restraint systems and dedicated anchor points. The result achieved millimeter accuracy while fully complying with AS1288 standards for overhead glazing.
The Feedback
The skylights have been celebrated as the defining feature of the Ozone project, praised for their technical innovation and striking architectural presence. The client and design team commended Magic Glass for delivering a flawless finish on time under highly complex conditions. The completed skylights now stand as a landmark example of residential glazing excellence, marrying form and function at the highest level.
