Project Spotlight: Acoustic Glazing for Knox Grammar School

The upgrade at Knox Grammar School required careful planning from day one. Tight timeframes, restricted site access and strict acoustic performance requirements meant every stage of the project needed to be carefully coordinated. Magic Glass was engaged to deliver a complete glazing package as part of the school's senior facilities upgrade, managing everything from aluminium fabrication and specialist glass processing through to installation.

Because every stage of the project was completed in-house, we were able to maintain quality, keep the programme moving and ensure every detail was delivered to the standard the project required.

A Complete In-House Solution

Working closely with our client, our team fabricated and installed:

• Acoustic aluminium framing systems

• Custom soft-close sliding doors

• Acoustic laminated glass

• Translucent privacy films

Built for Performance

One of the biggest priorities on this project was achieving the required acoustic performance. This wasn't a standard glazing system. It required purpose-designed single and double-glazed acoustic systems, carefully engineered to maximise the cavity between the panes of glass. Combined with acoustic laminated glass, the system was designed to achieve the specified STC and Rw acoustic ratings, helping create quieter, more comfortable learning spaces for students and staff.

Projects like this are where experience really matters. Every detail, from fabrication through to installation, plays a role in the overall performance of the finished space.

Precision Matters

Every piece of glass was cut and processed in-house to suit the exact site measurements. By manufacturing each panel specifically for the project, we were able to accommodate construction tolerances and any minor site variations while achieving a clean, high-quality finish throughout. It's one of the advantages of working with a team that controls the entire process rather than relying on multiple suppliers.

Working Within a Live School Environment

The project was delivered under a tight construction programme with restricted site access, making planning and communication essential. Our team worked closely with everyone involved to coordinate fabrication, deliveries and installation, ensuring the project remained on schedule while minimising disruption to the school environment.
